I should say I was thinking of this only for a cheap and quick-to-build
prototype that would be useful only for running sensor tests. It seems
that there are too many things to get them all right first time, so I
was thinking of ways to push the engineering problems away for a while.
I happen to have loads of chipboard and it is relatively easy to work
with. I also have some sheets of clear perspex which might be rather fun,
but it is harder to attach things to it as it cracks easily.
I quite agree with your comments for the design of the ``real thing''.

All the ones in RS called motorcycle batteries are 12V. Perhaps that's
not a portable term then.
