A four-wheeled platform would be more stable. If you go with (4), could you
make them all drive wheels? Same goes for three - that way as long as one
wheel / tire is in contact with the terrain, it will move. (As long as that
drive wheel / tire does not slip.)

That brings me to another comment. If you have only two rear drive wheels /
tires, and you are having traction problems, what about doing something to
increase the coefficient of friction between the terrain (grass) and the
tire, such as adding spikes or knobbies....you could remove the rubber tire
and drive nails or screws from the inside pointing out (assuming it's not an
inflatable tire).
